Group Tour vs Backpacking

When any traveler begins planning a journey, they have to ask themselves – do I go solo, go with a companion, or go on a tour? As a female traveler, there are many questions regarding safety and security while traveling solo. For my most recent decision to go to Southeast Asia, I didn’t have the option of going with a friend, and while I felt fairly safe about my destinations – Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand – I decided on an Intrepid Adventures tour.

This is the tour I decided on:

Although the tour covered a lot of ground in a short period of time, it didn’t feel overly rushed and having everything booked ahead made for a smooth journey. It was nice to be able to go out and see the sites rather than searching for the next hostel or day tour operator. The tour was ‘Basix’ style as well, which meant that we traveled with a combination or private and public transport, and stayed in small local accommodations. The daily excursions were also optional, but I joined most of them as they were usually major sites and highlights for each area.

I had an incredible time and would definitely recommend trying a backpacker style tour if you haven’t already. It was easy going and I made some great friends along the way. There are a number of small group tours available, with various focuses. Take a look at some of the most popular companies below.
