I am a member of the local Foothills Camera Club and was thrilled when I won a draw for a coveted spot on their annual trip to Lake O’Hara. The trip included two nights stay at the Elizabeth Parker Alpine Hut, located in one of the most spectacular areas of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Lake O’Hara is a protected area in Yoho National Park, west of Banff National Park. It is only one of many majestic lakes in the area and considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in the Rockies.
It was a fantastic and creative weekend with my fellow photographers and I got some amazing shots. We did some phenomenal hikes and had perfect weather the entire time. I would encourage any mountain lover to explore Lake O’Hara if you ever have the chance, it is a very special mountain area. To get to Lake O’Hara you need to book several months in advance (usually 3) for a bus ride into the area or hike 12km up a logging road.
I highly recommend the bus otherwise, you won’t have the time or energy to fully enjoy the area. Please see the below links for information about booking and overnight facilities. Here are some of my favorite landscape and nature photos from the area!
