Rural Cambodia

Discovering the Real Cambodia

After a few days exploring Phenom Pehn, we left the city to the experience rural Cambodia. We drove out to the town of Kongpom Cham where we took a bike ride around the town, and stopped for a locally cooked lunch.

After lunch, we continued our journey deep into the countryside, where we stopped in a tiny village for a local home-stay. The village had dirt roads, no electricity or running water. There was an outhouse and comfortable treehouse setup with mosquito nets and mats for us to sleep in.

The locals were so kind to us and invited us for a meal and a small get together in the town center. After we ate a simple meal of fried rice and vegetables, the locals had a jam session with drums and singing. It was an amazing way to spend an evening and I have never felt so far from home.
